Yes, World Book Day is upon us and alas, is almost over. We hope you've had a day full of costumes, stories and fun! Unless you're one of *those* people who earmark the pages of their books ... one essential thing for readers around the world are bookmarks. Here we are going to take a look at some of the best bookmarks. by Gemma Williams It's a Kind of Magic by Carole Matthews is a romance novel with a magical twist, as it is aptly named. The story, however, was not what I expected based on the blurb. The colourful, romantic and magical cover drew me in and promised intrigue. I couldn't wait to read it, but was I in for a surprise. By Gemma Williams Contrary to my usual reading habits, I first watched Howl's Moving Castle, many years before even acquiring the book. It was weird, random, made little sense, and was absolutely wonderful. My hopes when reading the book would be that there would be some kind of explanation to the story but that it would be equally wonderful and magical. The story follows young Sophie Hatter who is put under a curse by a witch. She sets out to discover herself and finds a new home in Howl's Moving Castle. Evil rumours are spread about Howl and so she should be wary as she enters the magical, random and utterly ridiculous castle. by the IWG Book Team 2014 was a great year for books. Unfortunately, there were so many books that we're sure that you didn't get around to reading everything. Neither did we, but still, the I'm With Geek team diligently selected from what literary delights we had devoured which were our favourite reads of the year. So whether you're looking for recommendations or just wanting to see if your favourite made the cut, come inside and check out our Best Books of 2014. By Gemma Williams It has taken me a while to jump on to the bandwagon of this series, written by Sarah J. Maas. I had heard so many great things about it that I was scared it wouldn't meet my expectations. I was afraid that the characters would be one dimensional, fall into the usual love triangle trap, and a story that had more or less been done before. So how did my expectations affect my reading of the book, and did it meet these fears of mine? By Gemma Williams It's been a long journey. Five Percy Jackson and the Olympian (PJO) books, and finally, five books in the Heroes of Olympus (HoO) series. Ten books set in a wonderfully magical world, yet was this highly anticipated book everything we expected it be, and how was the series overall? By Gemma Williams October 12th - 18th is Teen Read Week! We're currently in the middle of it but are you celebrating it? There are a few reasons as to why you should, one of these reasons being that the ambassador, whom I'm sure many of you will recognise, has recorded an introduction to tell you why this initiative is so important. By Gemma Williams To celebrate the release of the film, The Giver, I decided to read the book before going to see the film. I had heard a mixture of opinions about the book and thought I'd make my own opinion on it. The Giver takes place in a seemingly Utopian society and follows a young boy named Jonas. There were reviews saying that this one was the best books they had ever read, and others claiming that it was slow paced and boring. Here's my opinion: By Gemma Williams I am not a huge fan of Autobiographical books. I have only ever read one in my entire life and whereas it was entertaining enough, I still prefer to live my world of fantasy. There is one autobiography, however, that I just absolutely must get my hands on and I'm sure many of you will agree, especially after watching the unique book trailer to advertise it. Neil Patrick Harris is releasing an autobiography, but it's not like any you've ever read before... By Gemma Williams Stephen King is a horror mogul and you would be hard pressed to find someone who does not know his name. Many films and television shows have been adapted from his books, with some of them becoming hit classics. With at least 50 novels under his belt, he is still writing and releasing books left, right and centre, with his most recent future release being Revival, due out November 2014. Today, we will be looking at his latest book, Mr Mercedes, a crime thriller novel that was released 3rd June 2014. |
